Thursday Throw Down – Summer Versus Winter

Welcome to Throw Down Thursday! While I feel there is a very clear winner on the summer versus winter debate (I am a New England girl that hates all things cold, don’t kill me) I thought it would be fun to take a look at some unique Etsy finds for each season to see who does it better! Be sure to show some love to the Etsy shops featured in this weeks throw down, they have all been hand-selected by me, can’t by my love hehe!

Hair Accessories

Let’s start at the top shall we…the top of our noggins! Hair accessories can make or break an outfit no matter what season. These simple black and white zipper pouch scrunchies from All About Velour can be worn in your hair or on your wrist and double as a pouch for mini things like cash or chapstick, perfect for those winter nights out. In the summer, nothing beats pulling your hair back off your neck with an adorable floral headband, available in a variety of prints and styles from Viv & Kay. For this throw down, I have to give the win to the floral headband though…there’s something so nostalgic about a knotted headband with a cute summer dress that just screams perfection to me. Either season, you are sure to rock any hairstyle with ease!

Home Decor

When it comes to decorating your home for the season, it seems like winter is always the most common for going all out! I love the look of the understated hot chocolate sign from Misty Hollow Product Co. Being winter (not Christmas) themed, this is totally something I can see my mom keeping up well into March or even April! Pineapples are the universal sign of summer vibes, and this sunflower pineapple door hanging made by WLB Designs & Decor just invites a perfect pool party to ensue. I am going to have to give the win to summer for this round as well. The bright cheery colors of the pineapple just bring such a smile to my face I can’t help it.

Jewelry

This is a hard category for seasons because depending on your standpoint, jewelry doesn’t really have a specific season. I chose these items based on when I would be most likely to wear them based on color and details. I picked the bohemian copper earrings from Teresa’s Jewels Co because of the mandala snowflake details, as well as the copper color. I find copper to be the perfect metal for winter as it stands out again snow and the muted colors people often wear this time of year. The Aquarius-inspired pendant from Just Because Fun, though a winter zodiac sign, screams summer from its opaque and light purple color. I also linked the waves of Aquarius to a love of hot summer beach days. This is the first time, however, that I will be giving the win to winter for the perfect copper tones to complete any outfit.

Wildcard Item

What would a throw down be without a wild card?! For this category, I took the most fun and unique item I could find for the corresponding season and pinned them against each other. The hand-knit cold as fuck mittens by East Coast Knits (that’s me by the way) are straight to the point and remind everyone around you its damn cold out there! You know what else is cold? Eating an entire pint of ice cream on a hot summer day. The pint size ice cream handler from LIT Can Coolers is just what you need to prevent that ice-cream induced frost bite on your hands. Come on, you don’t have to pretend, we know you are going to eat the whole thing. Though both are designed to keep your hands warm no matter what season, the Cold As Fuck mittens are my personal favorite and thus winter takes the win on this round.

Well shit, we have a tie! I guess no matter the season you can always find the perfect item to make it the best season yet! Which season is your favorite? Be sure to comment below and let me know!
